Beauceron Puppies
It’s not an easy matter to buy purebred Beauceron puppies, because this breed is rare and there may be no breeder working with these dogs in your area. This breed of the Doberman’s ancestry originated in France as a herding dog. Nowadays, Beauceron dogs are almost unknown in the USA, but their history in Europe is long and interesting.
The first record of the Beauceron puppies and dogs dates back to the 16th century. This breed was one of the two sheepdogs used by French farmers. The other names of this breed are the Berger de Beuce, Beauce Shepherd, and Bas Rouge, which means Red Stocking, because of reddish markings on the dogs’ legs. Dogs of this breed were first shown in 1863. The first club for French shepherd dogs was founded in 1897. It was organized for the fanciers of the Beauceron dog and the Briard.
Like other herding breeds, the Beauceron is very versatile and suited for a variety of tasks. Nowadays, Beauceron puppies are still bred for herding sheep. Other talents of the breed are watchdogging, guarding the property, police and military work, tracking, obedience, agility, Schutzhund, and French Ring Sport. During the wars, these dogs were used to deliver messages, detect mines, find the wounded, and carry ammunition and food to the front lines. This breed is praised for its determination, desire to cooperate and please the owner, intelligence, and quiet nature. While the Beauceron dog is still used for military and police work in France, it’s gaining popularity as a family pet, watchdog, and a companion for children in other European countries and in the USA.
The Beauceron is registered by the AKC FSS (American Kennel Club Foundation Stock Service,) but it’s not recognized by the AKC. The registries that recognize this breed are: FCI, NKC, NABC, UKC, APRI, and ACR. Registered dogs can compete for Obedience and Beauty titles within these organizations. Purebred Beauceron dogs that lack registration cannot take part in competitions. Beauceron puppies should be bought only from reputable breeders who register their dogs in one of the major associations for purebreds.
