When buying Beaucerons, one has to explore the breed thoroughly to find out if it is the right breed for him/her. It is important to realize what kind of dog the Beauceron is. The breed is not recommended for people who want a mild mannered companion dog and cannot devote much time to its training. The Beauceron is a working dog that needs much attention and obedience training. Its temperament is valued greatly by breed fanciers. The dog is determined and independent. However, these qualities may not be favorable for a mild person's taste. Allowed to be on their own, Beaucerons can grow into self-willed dogs that are hard to control. Therefore, one should think over the choice of the breed prior to buying a dog.

Puppies at the age of 6-8 weeks old are exposed to this test to find out their main personality traits and types of activities they are best suited for. Beaucerons have talents for agility, obedience, herding, tracking, and rescue work.
